 Lemon Juice

Lemon juice works wonders to strengthen the nails. Besides, it also helps to perk up the appearance of brittle nails. Moreover, it improves the brightness of nails thus making them appear whiter than ever before.

Extract fresh juice form a lemon and mix it with three tablespoons of olive oil in a bowl. Heat the mixture in microwave for 10-15 seconds or till it gets lukewarm. Use a cotton swab to apply this mixture onto the nails before you go to sleep and leave it to work through the night.

Repeat this remedy daily till you notice an improvement in the condition.

Vitamin E Oil

Dryness or lack of moisture can be one of the major causes of brittle nails. Well, if this is the reason for your problem as well, vitamin E oil is the perfect remedy to retort to. It works by keeping them moisturized and well hydrated. In addition, it strengthens and nourishes not only the nails but cuticles as well.

To apply, cut open a vitamin E capsule to obtain the oil. Massage this oil gently onto the nails and cuticles for about five minutes before sleeping daily. Apply the oil regularly for at least three weeks or till the problem subsides.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil makes an effective remedy to treat brittle nails. More importantly, it doesn’t pose any side effects, especially in case of fungal infection. The amazing anti-fungal properties contained by tea tree oil help to treat discoloration of nails as well.

Mix together half a teaspoon of vitamin E oil and a few drops of tea tree oil. Massage this solution gently onto the nails for a few minutes. Leave it to work for about 30 minutes and follow with a tepid rinse. Pat dry your nails and apply a generous coat of a rich moisturizer. Repeat the remedy at least two times a day or at least a month to improve the texture of your nails.

Olive Oil

Thick oils, like olive oil, help in improvement of texture and quality of your nails. Prepare a mixture using one tablespoon of honey, a few drops of lemon juice, and a tablespoon of olive oil. Apply this mixture onto your nails by massaging in gentle circular motions. Doing this would make the oil penetrate the nails and cuticles. Conclude the procedure with a tepid rinse. To get best results, follow this remedy daily till the condition of nails improves.

Horsetail

Horsetail is a herb that is loaded with good amount of silica, an essential mineral for healthy growth of nails. In addition, it also helps to do away with the white spots on the nails, if any.

Simply, add two-three teaspoons of dried horsetail herb to a cup of hot boiling water. Cover with a lid and allow it to steep for fifteen minutes. Let it cool at room temperature. Use this solution as a soak for your nails for 20-25 minutes. Leave the nails to dry for a couple of minutes. Massage the nails gently with some olive oil. Repeat the remedy at least three times a week to achieve desired results.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil provides great nutrition to improve the condition of dry and brittle nails. It contains saturated fat that works as an excellent moisturizer for the nails. It also helps to prevent the occurrence of nail infections.

Take a tablespoon of coconut oil and heat it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to make it lukewarm. Apply this warm coconut oil onto your nails with the help of a cotton swab. You can also give a gentle massage with circular motions to improve the circulation of blood. Doing so also moisturizes the nails well. Apply this remedy at least three times a week to achieve desired results.

Eat Healthy

In addition to all the home remedies mentioned above, it is extremely important to eat healthy. Perking up the nutritional value of your diet helps to improve the condition of brittle nails. Try an include biotin rich foods in your diet with foods like peanuts, lentils, egg yolks, sardines, mushrooms, bananas, cauliflower, and liver. Eating healthy is the best remedy to treat brittle nails and make them healthy as ever.
