You have a stomachache, you have a headache, and your get-up-and-go is gone! Well, you have a hangover! And, that headache…is coming as a result of dehydration – alcohol is diuretic – and the body’s adjustment to the dropping levels of alcohol post drinking.

There’s no proven cure for hangover, but time. It takes anywhere between eight to twenty four hours for the symptoms to disappear. However, there are certain home-remedies that can help you get rid of hangover easily.

Sleep

Proper sleep helps to take away most of the hangover. Sleep is extremely essential for the body to recover from a hangover. After excessive drinking, the body doesn’t get appropriate chance to sleep properly.

Try to get maximum possible sleep the next day. If you have trouble sleeping, put on some soothing music and darken the room as much as possible. After a sound sleep, the symptoms of foggy brain and body will soon disappear.

Peppermint

Peppermint is herb that is extremely helpful to treat the symptoms of hangover. It supports digestion and helps relieve tension along with symptoms like bloating and nausea. In addition, peppermint quickens the process of detoxification.

Just chew some fresh peppermint leaves through the day. Doing so will relax the intestines and support quick recovery. Alternatively, you can prepare a cup of peppermint tea by pouring a cup of boiling water over a teaspoon of dried peppermint. Cover and let steep for 15 minutes. Strain and drink a cup or two of this tea on empty stomach.

Ginger

This is another age-old home cure to treat hangover symptoms like vomiting and nausea. Plus, ginger supports the digestion of alcohol thereby providing a soothing effect on stomach along with instant relief.

Simply chew small pieces of ginger all through the day to get relief from symptoms of hangover. You can also prepare ginger tea.

Otherwise, just add 10-12 slices of fresh ginger root to about four cups of water and boil it for ten minutes. Strain and drink this concoction when still warm. You can also add lemon and honey to enhance the taste.

Banana

With excessive drinking, a good amount of potassium gets drained off the body. To help the potassium replenish along with the loss of electrolytes, eating bananas is a simple solution. Bananas are a good source of potassium. Plus, bananas help clam the stomach as well as boost the energy levels.

Eat a banana or two with breakfast the morning after a night of heavy drinking to reduce symptoms of hangover. Alternatively, you can also prepare banana milkshake with added honey.

Tomato Juice

Having tomato juice is yet another simple remedy to do away with symptoms of hangover. This vegetable juice contains fructose, a sugar type, to metabolize alcohol more quickly. Also, it is rich in essential vitamins and minerals along with enzymes to quickly overcome the after-effects of drinking.

Pour a glass of fresh tomato soup or juice. Add a tablespoon each of honey and fresh lemon juice along with a pinch of cayenne pepper. Drink this juice once in the morning and then again in the afternoon to subside the symptoms of hangover.

Egg and Toast

Eating 2-3 slices of plain toast with an egg or two is a great idea to get rid of hangover. The complex carbohydrates contained by toast make a good source of recovery nutrients. On the other hand, eggs provide cysteine to break down the alcohol in the body and reduce toxicity.

The morning after an evening of heavy drinking, have two-three pieces of toast with an egg or two as your breakfast. However, don’t forget to drink two glasses of water before breakfast.

Honey

This is yet another excellent remedy to treat hangover. Being rich in potassium, honey helps to neutralize the effects of excessive intake of alcohol. Plus, honey contains fructose, a sugar type to metabolize the extra alcohol in the body, thus reducing hangover symptoms.

Take 3-4 teaspoons of honey every hour until the symptoms of hangover subside. Alternatively, you can add a tablespoon or two of honey to a cup of water and drink it gradually at regular intervals.

Lemon

Lemon helps to get rid of the after-effects of excessive drinking, such as dizziness, vomiting, muscle pain, and sensitivity to light. It helps to rebalance the body by controlling the level of blood sugar and adjusting the pH level.

Add a teaspoon of lemon juice along with a teaspoon of honey to a glass of lukewarm water. Stir well and drink it gradually. Do this remedy as soon as you wake up the morning after a night of drinking. You can also drink this water 2-3 times all through the day.
